Propylene Glycol Diacetate (PGDA) Product Introduction and Applications

I. Product Characteristics

1. Physical Properties

   • Colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid with a slight minty or sweet odor; density approximately 1.05-1.19 g/cm³, boiling point 190-204°C (at atmospheric pressure), flash point 84-87°C, low volatility (relative evaporation rate of n-butyl acetate: 0.04).
   • Soluble in alcohols, ketones, and other organic solvents; slightly soluble in water. Its high viscosity makes it suitable for adjusting the leveling properties of coatings.

2. Chemical Properties

   • Chemical formula C₇H₁₂O₄, molecular weight 160.17; structurally stable and resistant to decomposition.
   • Low toxicity and environmentally friendly (LD50 rat oral >13,000 mg/kg), with good biodegradability, complying with environmental standards such as RoHS.

II. Core Applications

 1. Coatings and Inks

• Coatings Field: Used as a high-boiling solvent (191-204°C) to dissolve acrylic resins, polyurethanes, etc., improving leveling, adhesion, and film-forming stability; reduces the minimum film-forming temperature of water-based coatings and enhances low-temperature scrub resistance.
• Ink Applications: Used in PCB inks and screen printing inks to adjust drying speed and viscosity, enhancing color vibrancy and printing smoothness.

 2. Adhesives and Polymer Materials

• Enhances the flexibility and adhesion of epoxy adhesives and potting compounds; used in the synthesis of polyester and polyurethane resins to improve the processing performance of plastics and composite materials.

 3. Industrial Cleaners

• Effectively dissolves grease and resin residues; used in cleaning electronic components, printing equipment, and paint stripper formulations.

4. Pharmaceuticals and Daily Chemicals

• Pharmaceutical Industry: Serves as a solvent or intermediate for drugs (e.g., furazolidone synthesis).
• Cosmetics: Acts as a humectant and solvent in nail polish and hairspray.
• Food Industry: Used as a solubilizer for edible flavors (must comply with safety standards).

 5. Other Fields

• Casting: Functions as an organic ester curing agent to accelerate core formation.
• Gas Purification: Removes acidic gas components.
• Lubricant Additive: Enhances high-temperature stability.
